ICAS Seeks Nominations for Sword, Scholl Awards

May 31st, 2022

ICAS is seeking nominations for the organization’s top awards: the ICAS Sword of Excellence and the Art Scholl Memorial Showmanship Award.

The ICAS Sword of Excellence is presented each year to recognize outstanding service and personal contributions to the air show community. It is widely recognized as the single highest award an individual can receive in the air show community. ICAS has presented the award to 46 air show professionals since it first presented the award to Paul Poberezny in 1981, including Jim Gattis, Art Scholl, Charles Hutchins, Patty Wagstaff, Chuck Newcomb, Bill Barber, Harry Wardwell, Dick Schram, Danny Clisham, and Jim Peitz. To nominate an individual for the 2022 ICAS Sword of Excellence, submit a one (1) page narrative that provides a) the name and contact information for the nominee; b) an explanation of the “specific and selfless contributions” made by the nominee to the air show industry; c) details on how the nominee has made the air show business better; and d) information on how the nominee demonstrated a commitment to the air show industry rather than just to his/her interests. Nominations for the 2022 ICAS Sword of Excellence will close on Wednesday, August 31 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. All nominations should be sent by email to icas@airshows.aero.

The Art Scholl Memorial Showmanship Award is presented each year to the air show act or performer that exemplifies the showmanship demonstrated by Art Scholl during his air show career. The list of past recipients of the award reads like a “Who’s Who of Legendary Air Show Performers,” including Bob Hoover, Jimmy Franklin, Leo Loudenslager, the French Connection, John Mohr, the Red Baron Pizza Squadron, Sean Tucker, Michael Goulian, Rob Holland, and Tora Tora Tora. The selection committee for this award will select the 2022 recipient based on a single criterion: air show showmanship. In the one (1) page nomination, the individual submitting the nomination should briefly explain the act, enumerate the attributes that distinguish the performer from others in the business, and list the unique entertainment/showmanship innovations introduced by the nominee. Nominations for the 2022 Art Scholl Memorial Showmanship Award will close on Wednesday, August 31 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. All nominations should be sent by email to icas@airshows.aero.
