Human Factors Considerations in the Air Show Environment: A British Perspective

As the worldwide air show community continues its efforts to improve safety and eliminate preventable accidents, human factors considerations are increasingly seen as an area in which much progress can be made. Adopting tactics used successfully in other segments of aviation, the air show community has begun to assess how physical, physiological, psychological and psychosocial issues impact a pilot’s ability to prepare for and complete an entertaining air show sequence safely. In this session, a British regulator working with air shows in the UK will summarize progress made in applying human factors research and best practices to the specific challenges and opportunities of the air show environment.
