Air Show Accidents: A Statistical and Preventative Perspective

Wednesday, December 9th 2020 10:00 am - 10:45 am

For nearly two decades, Des Barker has built and maintained a detailed database of nearly 1,400 air show accidents around the world. From the first recorded air display accident in France in May of 1908 to the most recent accidents of the 2010s, Barker has researched and provided relevant factual details for them all. He has also analyzed those accidents to uncover trends, possible tactics for mitigating risk, and safety truisms based not on opinions or feelings, but on cold, hard data. In this session, Des will provide specific, data-driven suggestions, and explain how the information he has collected can be used by individual pilots to lower their risk in the low-level, aerobatic environment.
