Air Show Operations Manual: An Update

Wednesday, December 9th 2020 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm

In 2019, the FAA authorized ICAS to work with a small group of shows to experiment with the development of an “air show operations manual.” The concept is that a show would develop and submit to the FAA for its approval a comprehensive manual that addresses all of the safety and operations mandates and guidance required of all U.S. air shows when submitting a FAA Form 7711-2 Certificate of Waiver application. This manual would be reviewed and approved by the FAA and then become the accepted guidance by which that show is subsequently organized and conducted. The manual would be updated and amended as required. And those updates and amendments would be reviewed and approved as changes to the previously approved air show operations manual. But the show would no longer be required to submit a new waiver application each year. Of the dozen shows that were approved as beta test sites, only Wings over Houston was able to both conduct their show and develop their initial air show operations manual. Representatives from the FAA and Wings over Houston will report on what they learned during this process and what is expected from this program moving forward.
