Air Show Leadership/Management Workshop

Thursday, December 12th 2019 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Versailles 1-2

The quality, sustainability and financial stability of any air show – military or civilian – is nearly always directly proportional to the strength and competence of that show’s leadership. From the smallest country air shows with just a few hundred spectators to the world’s largest military and waterfront mega-shows, the ability of the show’s leaders to lead, manage, direct, inspire and teach is typically reflected in the success of the event. And yet leadership is not a core competency that is frequently discussed within air show organizations or even at the ICAS Convention. This new workshop has been developed to directly address that deficiency. In a wide-ranging series of mini-sessions, a diverse collection of speakers will discuss a variety of topics and issues that contribute to strong air show leadership, including:

· Leadership principles: an overview
· The leader’s role in developing organizational structure
· Leadership and management of an air show organization
· The unique challenges of leading a volunteer organization
· Building and maintain a strong, balanced, effective board
· Leading a non-profit: a primer on legal and administrative issues
· Planning for succession in an air show organization
· Roundtable discussion among all presenters on attributes and examples of good air shows leaders with question and answer session

Offered for the first time at the 2019 ICAS Convention, this powerful program will provide a strong foundation for any ICAS Convention delegate with leadership responsibilities in his/her air show organization. And because it has been developed by experienced air show professionals for air show professionals, it will be focused on the challenges, opportunities and situations experienced in the air show environment. There will be no additional fees for registered ICAS Convention delegates to participate in this special workshop.
